Joe Cupo
Interests
Joe Cupo continues a family tradition of service to others as the second generation to honorably wear the uniform. He is celebrating his 25th year as a police officer, the last decade as a Sergeant, and like his father chooses to stay actively engaged in training and field operations to help develop and guide the next generation.
Joe’s primary duties at Inglewood Police Department find him in charge of departmental training for both sworn and civilian staff. As a graduate of Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Joe couples his formal liberal arts education with specialized tactical experience to advance practical application through complex cognitive skills in classroom training.
Joe is also a certified Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy Instructor and facilitates curriculum utilizing adult learning concepts and Bloom’s Taxonomy to elevate learning in the classroom.
In addition, Joe serves the department as the Rangemaster and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team Leader. Both roles require an extensive level of expertise as related to field and tactical operations. Certified by Dr. Bill Lewinski’s Force Science Institute in the field of Force Science Analysis, Joe uses this study in the construct of perception versus reaction within time parameters and uses the scientific data to assist officers in recalling specific details during use of force encounters which also aid investigators in officer involved shooting (OIS) investigations specifically relating to the understanding of time as related to perception and reaction timing.
As a graduate of the Sheriff's Leadership Institute (SLI), Joe leverages the concepts of tactics, perception, and leadership to elevate public safety dispatcher curriculum to a depth of understanding and learning outcomes uncommon in civilian coursework.
