Description
The goals of the Communications Training Officer (CTO) course are to prepare public safety dispatchers to effectively transition to the role of a teacher by leveraging their technical skill set and experience and coupling it with the incorporation of adult learning concepts. The course also reviews the principles in evaluating performance, teaching Millennials and Gen Z, and basic conflict resolution skills. The course is designed to adequately prepare new and experienced trainers to successfully teach newly hired public safety dispatchers.
Under the instruction provided by a qualified instructor(s) each student will acheive the following learning outcomes:
- Students will be able to construct a basic training plan that incorporates a specific learning style.
- Students will be able to employ specific methods of studying to match their trainees’ learning style to maximize their learning.
- Students will be able to plan instructional strategies relevant for the digital-aged and on-the-go- learners
- Students will identify the common liabilities of training and their role as leaders in the organization.
- Students will be able to practice a dialogue method that will increase their effectiveness of managing a conflict through an earnest conversation

Prerequisites
Current public safety dispatchers or telecommunicators. All class times listed are Pacific (California) time.
