This course is not POST certified. Eligible for CalOES ATA training reimbursement

Description

Active shooter events demand a coordinated response between field personnel and the communications center. This course bridges the gap between patrol tactics and dispatch operations, giving dispatchers the knowledge they need to enhance positive outcomes during these critical incidents.

Students will gain an understanding of patrol and tactical response frameworks so they can anticipate field needs and provide effective support from the console. The course examines current trends in large-scale active shooter events and tactical dispatching concepts, including mutual aid coordination, staging and command post management, and the use of social media and real-time crime center resources during active incidents.

Technology plays an expanding role in the communications center response. Students will explore current and future solutions, including crime analysis integration, video imagery, and drone technology, along with the advantages and challenges these tools bring to call-taking operations.

The course includes video case studies and assessments to reinforce key concepts and apply learning to real-world scenarios
