Dispatch Priming

Research data suggests evidence that field personnel may be negatively influenced by dispatch priming. By developing a deeper understanding of the cognitive processes of both officers and dispatchers, the course intends to introduce the concept of priming.

Description

The Dispatch Priming Course serves as an educational platform to introduce the concept of dispatch priming, a relatively novel idea that finds its roots in the well-researched psychological principle of priming, a multifaceted and complex topic. Research data suggests evidence that field personnel may be negatively influenced by dispatch priming. By developing a deeper understanding of the cognitive processes of both officers and dispatchers, the course intends to introduce the concept of priming. While dispatch is not the sole cause of all misapplications of force, the training emphasizes the significant role that dispatchers may have in these situations. The course is designed to inform dispatchers on how their approach, technique, and manner of communication could potentially influence officers' decision-making, possibly leading to use-of-force encounters.
