Trauma Exposure and Management

This Kim Turner, LLC course explores the emotional toll of being a 9-1-1 dispatcher and provides participants with an understanding of the definition of traumatic stress, as well as the common issues experienced by 9-1-1 professionals who handle multiple traumatic calls.

Description

Under the guidance of skilled instructors, students will embark on a comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted responses to trauma. This includes delving into the physical manifestations, such as heightened alertness or fatigue, alongside the cognitive aspects, which might involve memory issues or confusion. Emotional and behavioral responses, ranging from fear and anger to withdrawal and aggression, will also be closely examined. The goal is to foster a deep understanding of how trauma impacts individuals differently, shedding light on the complex interplay between mind and body in the wake of distressing events.

Additionally, participants will engage in reflective practices, privately identifying personal experiences of trauma and recognizing their own unique responses to such incidents. This introspective journey will not only enhance self-awareness but also empower students to articulate the ways in which they have navigated their recovery. By sharing coping mechanisms, whether through seeking support, engaging in therapy, or adopting healthy habits, learners will contribute to a collective pool of resilience strategies. This process aims to validate individual experiences while providing a platform for healing and growth within a supportive educational environment.
